Welcome to the County Leitrim Forum website. The site has been set up for the community and voluntary sector to utilise for information, to publicise events and community news. We have useful links to other sites and our publications are listed. We hope soon to have profiles of all the Forum members so you can put a face to the name.

Representatives to the Forum are elected every five years and the election meetings are advertised in the local paper and though letters to community and voluntary groups in the county. We ask that every community and voluntary group register with the Forum by either e-mail or phone, so if you have not already done so please do now. If you are a registered group in the county, you can qualify for cheaper insurance through the plan put together by the National Community Forum.

The Forum works to represent the voluntary and community sectors, and has representation on many statutory bodies. We lobby, on behalf of the voluntary sector government departments and other agencies. We also have also published a Funding Directory and held events like the Depopulation Seminar in Kiltyclogher. We are currently involved in a Youth Project with Leitrim County Council, and have recently held a conference on engaging youth with local community and voluntary groups. This was in the Lough Allen Hotel on 12th October. Information on this will be posted on the website.

Each county has their own Community Forum and these are recognised as the primary voice for community and voluntary groups within their county. Each county sends delegates to the National Forum, which undertakes a national lobbying role.

If you would like further information on the Forum, or would like to raise any issue, please use the contact e-mail or telephone number.

Youth Active Citizenship Project

The Leitrim Youth Active Citizenship Project aims to raise the awareness of young people aged between 13 – 25 on the role of the Community Forum, the Leitrim Networks and other agencies and bodies within the county. Both Young people and various group leaders will gain in their understanding of the role of the community sector in the county and how their participation can make a difference. It encourages them to become actively involved in community groups, so that their views and ideas are heard, to explore how they can become an active member of the community.

This project involves interaction with young people, identifying relevant issues that prevent them from actively participating in community development. It helps to

- encourage and establish procedures to ensure all Community Groups are engaging with young people.

- Work with community groups and encourages them to open existing buildings and recreation facilities for use as drop in centres and provide small grants to kick start projects aimed at young people.

These are envisaged to be primarily fitting out rooms in community centres to make them suitable for use by young people.
